SpeakEasy - a play on words
Do you know what speakeasies were/are?
In the 1920s, during the Prohibition in the USA, Speak Easies were illicit establishments where you could buy alcohol illegally.
Wow. Doesn't sound like a good name for an English course, you might say. And you may be right, but to me, Speak Easies were not only that. There's more to it. There's a sense of freedom. Resistance It means speak softly.
From the perspective of English teaching, that's all a non-native speaker wants to learn. How to speak without being easily targeted as such. To speak Naturally. That's how I came up with the name...
Also because in the 20s, Speakeasies were like a secret community...oh well, I hope we're not so secret...but we're online. Not a physical school, we can be anywhere at any time.
Speakeasies disappeared in 1933 when Prohibition ended, but you can still find them today in some places in London, Dublin, etc - obviously not as illict bars - but more of retro style ones!
and our SpeakEasy is a 1 to 1 Online English Course that aims to help students of all backgrounds to learn English in a natural way through the use of varied communicative approaches.
